Smart Work to Crack CDS Exam

ABOUT


CDS is Short for (Combined Defense Services) of Indian Armed forces. This Examination is conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) twice a year for recruitment into renowned academies like Officers Training Academy, Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force Academy. Only Unmarried candidates are eligible to apply for the exam. Those Candidates who clear the written exam successfully have to go through SSB Interview to take admission into the respective academies for further pre-commissioning.


Eligibility Criteria for CDS Exam

Ø Educational Qualification

·        IMA (Indian Military Academy):  The Candidates who want to join Indian Military Academy should possess a graduation degree from any renowned Organization.

·        INA (Indian Naval Academy):  Candidates who are willing to join Indian Naval Academy must have a graduation degree in Engineering.

·        OTA (Officers Training Academy): Those Candidates who want to go to Officers Training Academy should have a graduation degree in any stream from a recognized Institution.
  
·        AFA (Air Force Academy):   Candidates applying for Air Force Academy must have cleared 12th std. with PCM and also should have a degree from a renowned Institution/Organization or Bachelor’s degree in engineering/technology.


 Ø Nationality

·       The Candidates applying for CDS Should either have the nationality of an India, or citizenship of Nepal or Bhutan.

·       A Tibetan refugee who is living here before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently staying in India.

·       A Candidate of India who has migrated from Srilanka, Pakistan, Burma or East African Countries of Kenya.

·    The United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi, Uganda, Zambia, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of Permanently Staying in India.


Ø Marital Status

The Marital status of the candidates applying for Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Air Force Academy should be unmarried but for Officers Training Academy Candidate can be married/unmarried.

CDS SYLLABUS AND EXAM PATTERN

The written test for (IMA) Indian Military Academy, (INA) Indian Naval Academy, and (AFA) Air Force Academy is made up of three sections- English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics. Whereas the written paper for Officer’s Training Academy consists of 2 sections- English and General Knowledge. CDS written exam is conducted offline on an OMR sheet where candidates have to color the correct response.

·        Paper 1: English
The CDS written exam is objective type question paper, this paper is design to test the understanding of the English of the candidates. English the section includes questions related to the passage given in the paper.

·        Paper 2: General Knowledge
This Section of the CDS exam includes the complete knowledge of the current affairs topic and the issues that are occurring in our day to day life. Candidates should have a general understanding of answering scientific aspects. They should also have knowledge of the history of our Nation and geographical issues without doing any specific study. Basically, candidates must be able to answer the general knowledge questions.

·        Paper 3: Elementary Mathematics
Candidate should have brief knowledge about the topics covered in the paper 3 exams to clear the CDS exam. The topics that are covered in the paper 3 (Elementary Mathematics) are Arithmetic operations, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Mensuration, Statistics



§  IMA: Indian the military academy gives you the opportunity to join the Indian Armed Force and serve for 30 years maximum. In IMA only Gentlemen are eligible to appear.

  Ø  Understand the Syllabus and Exam Pattern

 EVERYTHING INVOLVED DURING THE NDA TRAINING

Candidates who are selected for their respective posts are first fully trained before they go on to join the respective armed forces. NDA training period Comprises of three years which is further divided into six semesters. The candidates are divided into different Battalions. In these three years of intensive and elaborate training, candidates are tested physically, mentally and also go through activities like swimming, horse riding, drill, etc. This training also covers all major subjects like Science, Technology, Arts and Military subjects. After the end of the course, the Cadet is awarded a bachelor's degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University. A stipend is offered to the candidate after getting selected in the interview for NDA is of Rs.15,600/- in addition with pay band and grade pay of Rs.5,400/- which becomes a total of 21,000.


ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR NDA


1. AGE -Applicant should be between 16.5 to 19 years of age. The Commission will only accept the date of birth that is entered in the std. 10th or 12th certificate.

2. NATIONALITY -A citizen should be of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan. Tibetan refugees came to India before 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India.

3. MARITAL STATUS –Candidate applying for NDA should be unmarried first of all and also have to undertake not to marry until they complete their training. Those Candidates who married during their training period will be discharged immediately and also have to refund all the expenses spent on that particular candidate.

4. PHYSICAL STANDARDS –According to the physical standards, a candidate must be physically fit.

Height and weight requirements for Indian Army and Air force:

The minimum Height Suggested for Army is 157cm and for Air force, it is 162.5 cm

For Gorkhas and Aspirants belonging to hills of northern-eastern regions of India, Garhwal, and Kumaon, the minimum required is less by 5 cm than the figure mentioned above. For people belonging to Lakshadweep the minimum height is reduced by 2 cm.

NDA SYLLABUS     
The NDA written test is divided into two parts. Paper 1 consists of Mathematics and Paper 2 is of general ability Test.

Paper 1:  Mathematics-
NDA 1 exam consists of 120 questions which are carrying 300 marks i.e, 2.5 marks per question with a time limit of 2 hours 30 minutes. Mathematics paper covers the questions from the following topics: Trigonometry, Algebra, Matrices and Determinants, Analytical Geometry, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Differential equations, Vector algebra, Statistics, and Probability.
   
Paper 2: General ability and English-
NDA 2 exam is divided into two Parts which is General ability which consists of 400 marks and English which is of 200 marks with a total time duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes. 

Part A (English)-This Covers topics like grammar, use of sentences, comprehension, etc.  
     
Part B (General Ability)-This Covers basic science subjects: Physics, Chemistry, General Science, Social Studies, History.  The other topics are from Geography, Current affairs, and events.
